Jack Wilshire had departed from Arsenal at the end of last season by the expiry of his contract. This ended Wilshire 17-year period at the North London area since joining the club’s academy at nine years old.
“It’s down to me to prove a point to Arsenal that they were wrong to get rid of me,” the 26-year-old Wilshere said to West Ham’s match-day programme.
Wilshere had a constant battle with loss of form as well as his injuries from his time at Arsenal 2016-17 campaign on a loan at Bournemouth. He had triumphed on making his way back into the team last season but was then allowed to leave after the Unai Emery took over as manager.
