Kai-Havertz agrees five years contract with Chelsea

Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz has agreed to a five-year deal with Chelsea, according to RMC Sport. Havertz, the youngest-ever Bundesliga debutant when he made his first appearance at 17 years and 126 days in 2016, has been tipped to leave Leverkusen once their current Europa League campaign draws to a close.

Chelsea are favourites for the 21 years old’s signature, with Frank Lampard keen to add more creativity to a forward line that now boasts of new players, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

But they seem unlikely to stop there, with defensive reinforcements next on the agenda and rumours over a Kai Havertz deal continuing as well as the need to offload some players.

Frank Lampard’s team earned Champions League football for next season through a top-four finish, but they also lost the FA Cup final and showed how far off Europe’s elite they are in their 7-1 aggregate humbling by Bayern Munich.

The manager says he knows where the team can improve, so it’s up to the club to find a way to make those upgrades. The Havertz saga looks set to continue for a while yet, due to the Germany international participation for Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

The Bundesliga side have already stated no moves will be made until their campaign has concluded, meaning the Stamford Bridge hierarchy will have to be patient in their dealings with the club.

RMC says Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Kai Havertz ahead of the Bayer Leverkusen star’s much-anticipated transfer to Stamford Bridge. No fee has yet been agreed between the clubs for the Germany international. Bayer Leverkusen are understood to be demanding €100m from Chelsea to sell.
