Chelsea enjoyed a busy summer transfer window with multiple first-team additions, although one of their key transfer targets was not successful.
Chelsea will renew their interest in Declan Rice in the January transfer window. The 21-year-old has been a long-term target for the Blues, with whom he spent the earliest years of his career.
No official bid came from the west London club this past summer despite mounting speculation.
However, according to the Daily Star, Frank Lampard is eyeing a winter move for the England international. Chelsea spent more than £200m during the summer window, but Lampard views Rice as the missing piece in his team.
Rice lines up in the midfield for West Ham, however, Lampard sees the youngster as a centre-back. The Star report that West Ham are preparing a new contract offer for Declan Rice.
In a bid to end Chelsea’s interest in the 21-year-old, the Hammers are willing to offer Rice a deal worth £120,000-a-week. West Ham are keen to end speculation about Rice’s future by tying him down to a new long-term deal.
The England international’s current contract runs until the summer of 2024 with the option of a further year.
Rice who was released by Chelsea as a teenager remains close friends with Mason Mount, but should the 21-year-old agree to the new deal at the London Stadium, it would make Chelsea’s attempts to lure him to Stamford Bridge much more expensive.
