PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen is being linked with a switch to Arsenal just three years after he left the Emirates Stadium having failed to make a single first-team appearance despite notching 44 goals at youth level.
That decision was made despite being offered a contract extension at the Emirates, and Malen has gone from strength to strength ever since, bagging 33 goals and 16 assists in 78 games for PSV.
The 21 years old Dutchman left the Gunners to return to his homeland in 2017 and has since excelled in the Dutch top-flight league.
According to a report by Soccernews, as relayed by Sports Mole, Arsenal are keen on bringing him back to England but will face competition from the likes of Barcelona and Juventus.
Juventus are said to have made contact with his super-agent Mino Raiola, but the striker is not believed to be interested in a move at this time.
The exciting prospect scored 18 goals for club and country last term before suffering a season-ending knee injury in January
Malen has also scored five goals in eight appearances this term, as he aims to secure a spot in Holland’s squad for next summer’s European Championship.
Rumours circulated in 2017 that Malen left Arsenal because he was ‘too fat’, claims the forward vehemently denied.
Speaking to De Telegraaf last summer, he said: “That I was sent away from Arsenal is certainly not true.
“I still had a contract for a year and Arsenal even wanted to extend that.
“I don’t play football for the money. I never did that. Otherwise I would not have left England.
“There are stories that I was not fit when I came to Arsenal. But I have never been too fat, that really is a nonsense story.”
