Arsenal have received a slight boost in the pursuit of highly rated RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
According to reports from Europe the 21 year old defender will only leave Germany for a club that assures him of first team shirt.
L’Equipe reports that there is a battle across the big clubs to sign the French talent. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United are also interested.
The two Spanish giants are said to be in touch with Upamecano’s agents. However the defender is still uncertain about his chances of making the first 11 at both clubs.
This is where Arsenal have the advantage as they can offer the defender assurances of first team football.
The Gunners current options David Luiz and Sokratis are not viewed as long term options and Upamecano is likely to step into the first 11 on arrival at the Emirates.
Upamecano is viewed as one of the top talents in world football with his defensive acumen and comfortability on the ball.
He could be the sort of player to transform the Gunners defence that has been the weak link in recent seasons.
It would be interesting to see how things pan out in the coming weeks.
